How do you monitor security guards through patrol rounds and checkpoints?
Short answer
- Define checkpoints and routes for a site, then record checkpoint visits.
- Compare expected points with received records and inspect overdue points against the configured interval.
- Patrol monitoring shows data received by the system. It is not continuous GPS tracking or conclusive proof of physical presence.
- 4guards supports dispatcher-entered visits and accepts checkpoint codes. Verify the available field workflow before choosing tags or devices.
Legal references and limits
- Configure rounds according to site organisation and post instructions; software configuration does not amend a security plan.
- Annex 2 to the HG 301/2012 norms describes guard-service documents. A scan list does not automatically replace the applicable registers and formalities.

Verification steps
- Start with one site, its checkpoints and a route. Set the order and an interval for recurring rounds, and confirm patrol functionality is enabled in the account.
- Start a round and record visits. Check point, time, method and agent association where supplied. Coordinates are optional and must be provided; they are not automatically measured.
- Close the round and inspect missing points and the complete, incomplete or missed status. Overdue-point reporting uses positive route intervals, last records and the configured grace period.
- Test submitting a record and refreshing the dispatcher view before field use. Do not assume QR/NFC works on every phone or that offline data syncs automatically.
Mistakes to avoid
- Equating a checkpoint code with permanent location tracking or tamper-proof proof of presence.
- Promising instant external notifications without a configured and verified delivery workflow.
- Assuming physical route order is checked: round status uses recorded checkpoints, not GPS route validation.
How 4guards helps
- Manage checkpoints with codes, routes, rounds and visit records by site and period. The panel includes manual entry by a dispatcher.
- The service accepts a checkpoint code and optional agent and coordinate fields. An anonymous record does not authenticate the person by itself.
- Checkpoint patrols are available from the Plus plan. Test the actual workflow with the team before field use. 4guards provides software, not guarding or intervention services.
